Well said Mr Parekh, The focus should be on acquiring the necessary skill sets to improve the client experience. "Try to control what is controllable, and stop focusing and wasting time in discussing the things which are not in your hand" is a valid point everybody should make note of.

Jigar Bhai, It is always darkest before dawn. We need to move beyond small matters like Service Tax and get cracking at attracting AUM. India is growing and if we keep cribbing on issues like this, we may well miss the Mind Share of investors by not focussing on their education and getting more of their Wallet Share

Though handicapped, atleast the butterfly in your beautiful story was born and it lived. Imagine if the little boy in the story had not put enough grass in the jar for the caterpillar then neither would the cocoon be formed nor would there be any butterfly to struggle. IFAs today are facing a similar situation. Soon there would be no one left to write their story of struggle. However, a very nice story for Moral Science classes in missionary schools!

L. Samraj ARN NO :0435 Chennai, 09 May 2015

Motivation is OK but Do you think deduction of Service tax from the IFAs dwindling remuneration is justified? Do you also think Cap on payment of commission is right? Will the authorities recommending Cap accept to work without increase in their salary?

Ranjan ARN NO :0195 Bangalore, 08 May 2015

The story is good and inspiring. But under no circumstances an unjustified thing should be accepted. We are not supposed to pay service tax.How Can AMC deduct this tax from us. I request big brokers and IFAs to unite and seek justice in the court of law.Nothing will happen if we small IFAs will only cry for this injustice. I strongly believe that we should respect the law of the country but every one should protest if that law is distorted and imposed upon wrongly to some people.

GOOD article by Mr Jigar. Yes struggle makes you better. but it hearts when people for whom you struggle do not acknowledge your act.

I agree with Mr.Prabhu.

I have been in the industry for last 27 years and in my own distribution for last 12 years. Also as soon as Mutual funds inroduced all trail model i had opted for the same with all the mutual funds whereever possible. becuase i always believed that MF is longterm investment and never to be churned. But you will notice that leading mutual funds have even reduced Trail commission be almost 25 basis point and on that you have to pay service tax of 14% in such case whatever flow you are talking about is also going to go down. so forget about any new enterent sustaining in the industry even old one will have to rethink on their businesses. All said and done motivation is ok but on the ground you can not work for charity. and any person will try to adjust till his day to day expenses are not hit once that starts happening their is no alternative but to look at other areas

thank u for writing such artical. no new idea is there wht next sebi and amfi coming up for ifa community. amcs should be given chance to only provide service to their direct investors. in rural n in deep interiors areas like LEH ladhak and many deep areas of northeast and himachalpradesh they should publish every month in their fact sheet how many new investors they created in these areas

Thanks Jigar.

Jigar Parekh ARN NO :9992 ahmedabad, 08 May 2015

Prabhu sir i can understand your concern, nowhere it is mentioned that u should forego commission, focus on building clientele and assets....trail is the fantastic revenue model. I agree with you on point that no uf will make us struggle for day to day expense...but looking at the business from 3 years plus perspective it can be a fantastic and stable cashflow generating business.

prabhu ARN NO :12746 kolhapur, 08 May 2015

This article can win first prize in a competation. Author has left only one point that to be fly more than butterfly IFA should give up the commission in total like what govt is now appealing incase of gas subsidy. Work as IFAs keep strugling and you will comeout winner no money required to run your day to day expenses . you can live on air

Abbasali Mava ARN NO :RJ Advisory himmatnagar, 08 May 2015

Thanks Jigarbhai for such a great article. Struggles are now becomes the part of our life. If we takes such small problem as like big one we cant last as an IFA. let all IFA fight against problems against struggles and make our life more positive.

Mohsin Bijepuri ARN NO :33913 Chennai, 08 May 2015

I fully agree with Jigar. The abolition of entry loads brought me out of my comfort zone & I got into building and managing portfolios with an AUM based fee. This led to financial planning. Today my income has considerably risen and I am very happy.

@dear manan, i respect your feelings, the point here is to keep focusing on positive side of the struggle that would help you. By the way regarding the business being more difficult for newage advisors...i have some different views which i would share in my next article...thanks for inspiring to write...

manan ARN NO :24978 Ahmedabad, 08 May 2015

Mr jigar parekh, be in the business of mutual funds. let us see your perspective after 3yrs of business in aum building. good writ up to motivate people. But ground reality will only come who will run the business. things are really bad for new age advisors. rethink on it.

Nikhil Girme ARN NO :39636 pune, 08 May 2015

highly motivating for all IFAs.. in fact I am sure that next year there will be still more new and varied problems for IFAs...in fact we should now all become used to only problems..Rather we should be waiting to challenge the next new problems only since it is destined to be there throughout our lifes.Till the next new useless unilateral regulation comes Cheers

Chhabilesh Patel. ARN NO :ARN 42660 Ahmedabad, 08 May 2015
