Great model!! Of course, this is high time to evolve into such a style of business. Well done.

Ajay Khusal ARN NO :3452 Mumbai , 21 Jun 2012

Since SEBI concept paper says you either have to be agent or advisor you are trying to play a double game now, agency will be running in some other name and you behave like a financial planner..

vinod kumar harjai ARN NO :23047 lucknow , 21 Jun 2012

congratulations Mr Pramod,a right step at right time. Now u are cfp ,for a knowldgeable client only advisory modle will work. fantastic move.

Sudhansu Sekhar Mohapatra ARN NO :ARN-14034 Bhubaneswar, 21 Jun 2012

I liked your move pramod. I think we all should move ahead and try to know wherewe stand and whether we are fit for the role SEBI wants us to play i.e. the role of advisor not the distributor. Now only we can do it because we have already a cousion of distribution income. weldone pramod. Good move

Amalaraj Marian ARN NO :2408 Nashik , 21 Jun 2012

Sir good move and a good step forward we need to make people understand what is advisory. this statement comes with a caveat. this would have been really revolusionary if instead of just moving away from the company, you would have said that i will not get my monnthly cashflow into the bank from this company and now i move into this new business. in that case this would be starting as zero, now your cashflow is still there as a stake holder of your company, so the worry is not there as to where from the money is going to ccome to run my family? in that case it would be verry difficult? mind you this is the question and the real state of affairs with an average advisor in no means he is not a good advisor. the problem is the big question uncertainty.

Soubhagya ARN NO :0000000000 Bangalore , 21 Jun 2012

I don't understand on what sense readers of this article are appreciating such move of Mr. Pramod which is quite dangerous for any genuine FP client who needs pure advice and no indirect way or any optional promotion of any company/investments. Point raised by Surekha is quite pertinent, You need to understand the difference between Fee-Based & Fee-Only approach. @Admin I think there may be some printing error, the author might be talking about Fee-Only approach but the feel is coming as Fee+Commission

It all stems from "Honesty with Self" I believe. Thank you Pramod for sharing your thought process. Thank you wealthforum. Adding value to self by learing from courses like CFP and CFA should give us the required confidence.

IN VIZAG ARN HOLDER START SELLING THE REAL ESTATE & ASKING MONEY FROM AMC & DISTRIBUTION PEOPLE. BECAUSE THEY CANNOT TAKE FROM INVESTOR. NOW THEY ARE MAKING THE INVESTOR UNCOMFORTABLE REGARDING MF BUSINESS. KINDLY GOD SAVE THE VIZAG PEOPLE & AMC AS WELL AS BIG DISTRIBUTOR.

Great! and bold move. Where is a will there is a way. I wish you good luck for your bright future and endeavor.

Vijay ARN NO :56564 Mangalore , 21 Jun 2012

good thoughts and a bold step indeed. with regard to rs.5000- or any amount being charged per year say example mutual funds there is a bear market 2-3 years and clients portfolios are at a loss. will they still be paying yearly ? how can you convince them on this matter ? its fine if your advices are on tax, loans, insurance. but when it comes to stock market and advisory fees clients will think twice.

Vasudevan ARN NO :51640 chennai , 21 Jun 2012

This is just a smart move in anticipation of the SEBI's new guideline. One would always say, "Here is the plan and I know of someone who would help you in implementing". Once you win the trust of the client, it is easy to direct him to your own distribution company. This segregation might not remove the conflict of interest. Further planning is not an one-time activity, its a continuous process. If you leave your client with a plan and ask him to implement it through a distributor of his choice, he is always going to be subjected to dual advice for the same objective - one from the planner and one from the distributor. When you leave the implementation to the client choice, following questions needs to be answered: 1) How will the planner track the implementation. 2) How will the planner track the investments. 3) How will the customer co-ordinate between two entities - planer and the distributor. Disclosure and transparency the key

If Pramod really believe in what he says, then he should not mention his firm Swan Finance name. But he is doing it which is again leading to self-interest.

Surekha Verma ARN NO :No ARN Bangalore , 20 Jun 2012

Seems full of conflict of Interest.. Here I can dare to say Mr. Pramod Saraf is playing two roles. Please understand the difference between fee-based and fee-only services. If you are really unbiased, you should be a fee-only advisor - in which case you cannot offer your distribution company's services to your clients. As long as you own Swan Finance, you cannot be a fee-only advisor.

Manish ARN NO :000000 Pune , 20 Jun 2012

Agree with Raman & Surekha's veiw. I think it's a clear and live example of what a conflict of interest is. Mr. Pramod you need to re-think before giving such veiws.
